K-factor, also known as viral coefficient or viral factor, is a metric that measures the organic growth and viral potential of a product or service. It quantifies how many new users or customers are acquired as a result of each existing user's recommendations or referrals.

To calculate the K-factor, you can follow these steps:

  1. Determine the Average Number of Invitations: Identify the average number of invitations or referrals sent by each user.

  2. Determine the Conversion Rate: Determine the conversion rate, which represents the percentage of invited users who become new customers or users.

  3. Apply the Formula: Multiply the Average Number of Invitations by the Conversion Rate.

The formula for calculating the K-factor is as follows:

K-factor = Average Number of Invitations * Conversion Rate

For example, if the average number of invitations sent by each user is 5, and the conversion rate is 0.2 (20%), the calculation would be:

K-factor = 5 * 0.2 = 1

Therefore, the K-factor in this example would be 1.

A K-factor of 1 indicates that each existing user brings in one new user on average. A K-factor greater than 1 suggests viral growth, as each user is bringing in more than one new user, while a K-factor less than 1 indicates limited viral potential.

The K-factor is a valuable metric for assessing a product or service's organic growth potential and viral marketing effectiveness.
