How to calculate bounce rate?

Bounce rate is a metric that measures the percentage of website visitors who leave your site after viewing only a single page, without interacting or navigating to any other pages.

To calculate bounce rate, follow these steps:

  1. Determine the Total Number of Single-Page Visits: Count the number of sessions where visitors landed on a page and did not engage further or navigate to other pages.

  2. Determine the Total Number of Entries: Identify the total number of sessions where visitors landed on any page of your website.

  3. Apply the Formula: Divide the Total Number of Single-Page Visits by the Total Number of Entries. Multiply the result by 100 to express it as a percentage.

The formula for calculating bounce rate is as follows:

Bounce Rate = (Total Number of Single-Page Visits / Total Number of Entries) * 100

For example, if there were 1,000 single-page visits and 5,000 total entries to your website, the calculation would be:

Bounce Rate = (1,000 / 5,000) * 100 = 20%

Therefore, the bounce rate for your website would be 20%.

A lower bounce rate indicates that visitors engage with your website, explore multiple pages, and potentially find value in your content or offerings. Higher bounce rates may suggest website usability issues, content relevance, or targeting.
